A hundred port pilots or from all over the world participate in Mallorca in the International ISPO Congress 2019 to discuss the standard of quality and security in ports. This year Palma has been the city selected to host this meeting, which was held last year in Brisbane (Australia).
According to Melgar, the The Balearic Islands Port Authority is very sensitive to environmental issues and is launching a project that allows ferries to be connected when they arrive at the port, eliminating the emissions that are produced in earth.
The spokesperson for the Palma Pilots Corporation, José Antonio Pérez, has highlighted that the port of Palma is one of the 20 ports in the world that have the ISPO certificate and the only Spanish port to have it.
“ISPO does not value the size of the port but how things are done”, Pérez highlighted. This international distinction guarantees the port community transparency in its operations, from the embarkation/disembarkation in ships, to the treatment of claims from its clients, passing through the internal management procedures of the organization.
The conferences continue on Thursday with the intervention of the General Director of the Merchant Navy, Benito Núñez.
